Palm Tree Column, Clément Massier, circa 1890/1900
This palm tree column was realized by Clément Massier at the end of the 19th century. The palm column consists of a pedestal surmounted by a flowerpot of a moiré green colour. This set represents palm trees. The base is composed of four sides. The shaft is made up of four columns representing the trunks of four small palm trees. The planter represents in relief the sharp and clear leaves of the palm trees. The marbled green colour illustrates Clément Massier’s high technicality. The palm tree theme is in keeping with Les Massier’s taste for fauna and flora but also for the orient, a favourite theme of 19th century artists.
