Eugène Collinot, pair of decorative panels with yellow background, circa 1860-1870

Despite the absence of a signature or visible mark, these two enamelled earthenware plaques in relief surrounded by a circle can without any hesitation be attributed to Eugène-Victor Collinot. This artist from Moselle successfully participated in the various exhibitions that punctuated the second half of the 19th century. The technique of encircled relief enamels, which he applied in 1864, used for the realization of these panels, confirms the origin of their production. They are exceptional works by their rarity and their incredible precision which reveals the technical mastery achieved by the House of Collinot. The panels are the result of patient work in the workshop, and of a work that also bears witness to great erudition through its borrowing of motifs from Far Eastern art. The dimensions and colours assert the fully decorative character of these pieces.
