Pair of bronze mounted vases – Eugène Collinot, circa 1860-1870

This very rare pair of vases was made quite early in Eugène Collinot’s career. With regard to the brand, the technique and the decoration, these pieces were most certainly made between 1862 and 1867. Indeed, Collinot does not use here the cloisonné technique which will become his trademark later on. Using the shape of ancient Chinese bronze vases, he creates a charming and accurate representation of Japanese nature scenes. Collinot uses here motifs from his own collection published in 1859 with his associate Adalbert de Beaumont (1809-1869).
