Delphin Massier, Vallauris, France, Camel, circa 1890

This decorative sculpture revives the tradition of Mediterranean majolica. This piece of Delphin Massier (1836-1907), set at Vallauris for several generations, expresses the taste for exotic animals close to the Mediterranean. The camel ruminates and has thick coat on top of his body. The shimmering appearance of the glaze enhances the shades of brown and yellow colors.
