Large Charger, in the Palissy style, Joseph Landais

This Large Charger is made according to Palissy’s scheme – with a central islet surrounded by a river. Faithfully reproducing the famous Renaissance potter’s technique, Landais uses a snake that does not come out of the islet. He re-discovered the principles of Palissy’s bowls composition to create a dreamlike universe, full of imagination.

We find on this piece the wise use of colors realized by Landais who recreates a real piece of nature. He seizes on the spot a snapshot of life,  playing on the notions of life and death: Nature is seized in the material.
