Pair of Iris Vases, Delphin Massier, Vallauris, France, Early 20th century
Pair of iris vases made by Delphin Massier in the early 20th century. The iris flower, so colourful and elegant, is very present in the works of Delphin Massier, as in the Art Nouveau repertoire at the beginning of the 20th century.
Like most of Massier’s pieces, nature is the main source of inspiration. Delphin Massier’s work fits perfectly into the Art Nouveau movement. This ornamental vocabulary contributes to the renewal of the decorative arts at the end of the century. Many naturalistic motifs from all horizons appear in the Massier production.
