Large central sofa in the style of Napoleon III, vers 1940
This large blue sofa is quite typical furniture of Napoleon III style, marked both by a desire for comfort and pageantry. This particular seat was often found in the entrance halls of large residences and private mansions, theaters or operas.
The straight back in the center of this piece is both a place of rest and conversation. Typical of the Second Empire, the use of this type of seat continues during the twentieth century, and it is interesting to note the many changes and adaptations that will exist: variations in the shape of the seat (circular sofa oval sofa etc.), in the form of the backrest (sofa with 3 places are found) or in the choice of fabric and color.
The pretty vibrant blue and golden fringes of this sofa actually remind the richness and eclecticism of the decors of the late nineteenth century.
