Edmond Lachenal (signed), Blue ovoid vase, circa 1900, blue-glazed earthenware, Paris, France

This brilliant blue vase is signed Lachenal. This distinctive turquoise hue recalls the characteristic blue of Théodore Deck, with whom Edmond Lachenal trained before opening his own workshop. The lower part of the vase is decorated with glazes reminiscent of Asian ceramics, testifying to the influence of Japanese art in Lachenal’s work. In 1884, he exhibited at the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs, where his presentation was noted: “M. Lachenal, a very research-minded artist, whose enamels are used with remarkable intelligence from the decorative point of view […]”.
