Minton, Paire of monumental chinese urns, Circa 1857, polychrome earthenware, Stoke-on-Trent, England

A similar pair was displayed at both entrances to the stand of A.B. Daniell & Sons, representative of the famous English manufacturer Minton (Stoke-on-Trent) at the 1876 Philadelphia World’s Fair. The same stand also featured a pair of monumental Chinese bottles, also part of the Galerie Vauclair collection. The influence of China and the arts of the Far East is perceptible in the majority of the pieces exhibited in Philadelphia, and becomes masterly in pieces of this scale.
