Perret & Vibert, Pair of corner armchairs in bamboo, Circa 1870, France
This pair of bamboo armchairs showcases the unparalleled craftsmanship of the Perret & Vibert manufactory at the end of the 19th century. Also known as “The House of Bamboo,” Perret & Vibert was one of the leading designers and manufacturers of luxury furniture made from bamboo and rattan, as well as carved wood with shapes and decorations inspired by Oriental and exotic styles.
The shape of these chairs allows them to fit perfectly into a corner. What makes this model original is the way the artisans sought to imitate a coil ending in a root foot, using bamboo—a material typically employed in more geometric constructions.
