CENTURY exhibition at the Galerie Vauclair from November 16 to December 18, 2021

On the occasion of the Paris Design Week 2021, Pierre Gonalons settles in the Orangerie
of the Hôtel de Sully while the Galerie Vauclair welcomes Laura Gonzales for a cheerful and colorful collaboration. The Galerie Vauclair wishes to continue the dialogue between ancient and modern and publishes a collection of enamelled lava stone, signed by the famous designer.
Laurence and Denis Vauclair met Pierre Gonalons a few years ago. The Galerie Vauclair was associated with the designer when he decorated his house outside of Paris and they found themselves around their common passion for the 19th century. Indeed, Galerie Vauclair has become the leading specialist in this period and continues to take up every challenge, such as presenting a new and limited collection of pieces from contemporary art.
Far from the usual Galerie Vauclair decor, CENTURY’s pieces are designed with sober, geometric and pure lines. When he imagined his design, Pierre Gonalons chose to work with enamelled lava, a material widely used at the end of the 19th century. He chose to use “brushstrokes” to treat the enamel, making each piece unique. The holes in the pieces are as much a questioning of functionality as a play on the circular form, which is omnipresent in the collection. CENTURY is Pierre Gonalons’ signature on four key objects that are resolutely new to Galerie Vauclair: a stool, a mirror, a table lamp and a floor lamp. The CENTURY pieces aim to become timeless must-haves for a new generation of decorators and collectors in search of purity, avoiding the pitfall of simplicity.
