Japanese cachepot, Eugène Collinot

This Japanese cachepot of high quality workmanship bears witness to the new influences from the Far East that affected ceramists from the second half of the 19th century onwards. The Collinot & Cie factory is part of this veritable race for monumentality which is visible at the Universal Exhibitions and which pushes the material to the limits of its possibilities.

The special feature of this work is the aubergine coloured background, which allows pink flowers, green leaves and figures of birds and butterflies to stand out from the composition. In addition, a turquoise edging at the neck of the piece emphasizes the whole work, while giving it a Persian touch. The originality of this vase lies in its curved shape, as if it were a blooming flower.
