Napoleon III period fabric and trimmings armchair

This pretty fabric and tassel-lined armchair is emblematic of the Napoleon III period. Mounted on casters, this chair ensures a real comfort. The design of the beige and red tapestry, edged with tassels, give it a very refined character. Indeed, one can imagine a chair of this size in a Parisian salon characteristic of the Second Republic. This period, which sounds the pomp and opulence in the interiors, is sometimes referred to as the “triumph of the upholsterers”. Rich fabrics and textiles adorned bourgeois apartments in an ever-increasing search for comfort. Numerous paintings testify to these sumptuous interiors whose reputation was known all over Europe. The Salon of Princess Mathilde, cousin of Napoleon III, is one of the jewels of the Empire. Abundantly represented, it allows one to imagine for a moment these fabulous interiors which were certainly the scene of this beautiful chair presented by the Galerie Vauclair.
